Beberapa fenomena fonologis bahasa Yunani Siprus mirip dengan ragam Yunani di Aegea: pemanjangan konsonan awal kata; imbuhan akhir /n/; dan palatalisasi /k/ menjadi [t͡ʃ].
Meskipun bahasa Yunani Siprus cenderung dianggap sebagai dialek oleh penuturnya, bahasa ini tidak dapat dipahami oleh penutur bahasa Yunani Baku Modern tanpa pengetahuan ragam yang memadai.[8] Penuturnya memiliki diglosia tersendiri dalam bahasa sehari-hari yang berbeda dengan penutur bahasa Yunani Baku Modern[9][10] Bahasa Yunani Siprus merupakan kesinambungan dialek tanpa adanya bentuk baku dari bahasa ini.[11][12]
