Gyps adalah sebuah genus hering Dunia Lama yang diusulkan oleh Marie Jules César Savigny pada tahun 1809. Anggotanya dikenal sebagai hering griffon. Hering dalam genus Gyps memiliki kepala ramping, leher ramping panjang dengan bulu halus, dan bulu leher yang terdiri dari bulu-bulu panjang. Bagian atas paruh besar mereka agak terkompresi, dan lubang hidung besar mereka yang gelap terposisikan melintang terhadap paruhnya. Mereka memiliki enam atau tujuh bulu sayap, yang pertama adalah yang terpendek dan yang keempat adalah yang terpanjang.
