It takes place on outdoor hardcourts, and was introduced in 2021 to be played in the month of January at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre in the city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.[1] The tournament was introduced due to the suspension of all WTA tournaments in China and delay of tournaments in Australia because of COVID-19 pandemic.[2][3] In 2023, the event was brought back to the tour as a replacement for St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy due to the suspension of WTA events in Russia because of their invasion of Ukraine. Another reason to host the tournament in Abu Dhabi was the strengthening of the Gulf season with the already established Dubai Tennis Championships and Qatar Total Open.[4] Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre in 2025 Results Singles Year Champion Runner-up Score 2021 Aryna Sabalenka Veronika Kudermetova6–2, 6–2 2022Not held 2023 Belinda Bencic Liudmila Samsonova1–6, 7–6(10–8), 6–4 2024 Elena Rybakina Daria Kasatkina6–1, 6–4 2025 Belinda Bencic (2) Ashlyn Krueger4–6, 6–1, 6–1 2026 Sára Bejlek Ekaterina Alexandrova7–6(7–5), 6–1 Doubles Year Champions Runners-up Score 2021 Shuko Aoyama Ena Shibahara Hayley Carter Luisa Stefani7–6(7–5), 6–4 2022Not held 2023 Luisa Stefani Zhang Shuai Shuko Aoyama Chan Hao-ching3–6, 6–2, [10–8] 2024 Sofia Kenin Bethanie Mattek-Sands Linda Nosková Heather Watson6–4, 7–6(7–4) 2025 Jeļena Ostapenko Ellen Perez Kristina Mladenovic Zhang Shuai6–2, 6–1 2026 Ekaterina Alexandrova Maya Joint Tereza Mihalíková Olivia Nicholls3–6, 7–6(7–5), [10–8] See also Dubai Tennis Championships Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge World Tennis Championship References ↑ "2021 WTA Tournaments". ↑ "Tennis-2021 WTA season to begin in Abu Dhabi; Auckland, Shenzhen events scrapped".
