Dalam taksonomi, Thermoplasmatales merupakan ordo dalam Thermoplasmata.[1] Semuanya asidofili, tumbuh optimal pada pH di bawah 2. Picrophilus saat ini yang paling asidofilik dari semua organisme diketahui tumbuh pada pH minimum 0,06.[2] Banyak dari organisme tidak mengandung dinding sel, meskipun hal ini tidak benar dalam kasus Picrophilus. Sebagian besar anggota Thermotoplasmata termofilik.
