Daun wijen adalah salah satu dari 50 ramuan dasar dalam Pengobatan Tradisional Tiongkok . Ini disebut "zi su" (紫苏/紫蘇), dan digunakan untuk menghilangkan masalah masuk angin, kembung, serta masalah perut dan paru-paru. Kadang-kadang dipasangkan dengan Tu Huo Xiang atau Guang Huo Xiang untuk menghilangkan kelembapan dan memperkuat qi .
