Torridon is on the west coast of Scotland, 109 miles (175km) north of Fort William and 80 miles (130km) west of Inverness. Situated in an area well known to climbers, photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, hikers, and visitors from around the world, the surrounding mountains rise steeply to 3,500 feet (1,100m) from the deep sea lochs. There is a hotel, The Torridon, and a youth hostel.
Mountains
The loch is surrounded by numerous mountains to the north, including Liathach, Beinn Alligin and Beinn Eighe, all of which are over 3,000 feet (914.4 metres) in height. Specifically, they are:
Torridon hosts the annual Celtman Extreme Triathlon since June 2011.[1] It is considered one of the most challenging triathlons in the world.[2] The 3.4km swim takes place in Loch Shieldaig while the 202km bike leg is notable for the strong winds affecting competitors. Finally the 42km run takes in two Munros during the race over the Beinn Eighe range.[3]
