Yishuv merujuk kepada imigrasi sah sebagai "Aliyah Alef" (Alef adalah huruf pertama dari abjad Ibrani, seperti halnya huruf A pada abjad Latin), sementara imigrasi rahasia disebut sebagai "Aliyah Bet" (Bet adalah huruf kedua, seperti halnya B pada abjad Latin).
