Konvensi Fiksi Ilmiah Sedunia Pertama (Worldcon) diadakan di Caravan Hall, New York dari 2 sampai 4 Juli 1939, bertepatan dengan Pameran Dunia New York 1939, yang bertemakan "The World of Tomorrow" (Dunia Esok). Konvensi tersebut kemudian dinamai "Nycon I"[2] karya Forrest J Ackerman.[3] Acara tersebut dihadiri oleh 200 partisipan.[1][4]
