In 2021, Horst transferred to play for the Michigan State Spartans of Michigan State University.[4][5] He started the first eight games of the 2021 season at left tackle before missing the rest of the year due to injury.[2] He was named
honorable mention All-Big Ten.[2] Horst played in eight games, starting seven at left tackle, as a fifth-year senior in 2022.[2] He was invited to the Hula Bowl all-star game after his senior year.[2] He majored in communication at Michigan State.[2]
Professional career
On February 21, 2023, Horst was selected by the Michigan Panthers with the first overall pick of the 2023 USFL draft.[6][7] He went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft, and signed with the Miami Dolphins on May 12, 2023.[8][9] However, he was waived by the Dolphins three days later.[8] On June 16, 2023, Horst was selected by the Orlando Guardians in the 2023 XFL rookie draft.[1] He officially signed with the USFL's Panthers on September 6, 2023.[8] He played in eight games, starting five at left tackle, for the Panthers during the 2024 UFL season.[7] Horst also started for Michigan in the USFL Conference Championship, a 31–18 loss to the Birmingham Stallions.[7] On
August 12, 2024, he re-signed with the Panthers for the 2025 season.[8] He was later released on February 28, 2025.[8]
