Henri Jozef Michel Nouwen (24 Januari 1932 – 21 September 1996) adalah seorang pastor diosesan Katolik dari Belanda, dan penulis lebih dari 40 judul buku rohani yang disukai baik oleh pembaca Protestan maupun Katolik. Setelah dua puluh tahun menjadi pengajar di Universitas Notre Dame, Universitas Yale, dan Universitas Harvard, ia mengabdi di lingkungan orang-orang cacat di Daybreak, Toronto.

Hidupnya

Henri Nouwen dilahirkan pada 24 Januari 1932 di Nijkerk, Belanda. Ketika berumur 5 tahun, ia sudah berniat untuk menjadi imam Gereja Katolik. Ia kemudian ditahbiskan sebagai imam pada tahun 1957 di Nijmegen. Tahun 1964 dia pindah ke Amerika Serikat dan belajar Menninger Clinic. Dia juga sempat mengajar di Universitas Notre Dame (1966-1968), Yale Divinity School (1971-1981), dan Harvard Divinity School (1983-1985). Ia juga sempat tinggal di biara bersama biarawan Trappist di Abbey of Genesee, tinggal bersama orang-orang miskin di Peru. Tahun 1985 ia bergabung dengan komunitas L'Arche di Trosly, Prancis. Nouwen meninggal pada tanggal 21 September 1996 di Hilversum, Belanda karena serangan jantung; kemudian dimakamkan di Richmond Hill, Ontario.
