Darre quit football in 1962 to attend graduate school.[3] He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry at Ohio State University in 1966, and was an industrial chemist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Cincinnati, Ohio. He became president of the Shepherd Chemical Company in 1985.[4] He was inducted into Tulane's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.[5]
Darre married Beatrice Fry in 1966,[6] and they had three children.[4][7] Their son John died in 1992.[8] Darre died in 2006, at the age of 66, in Cincinnati.[4]
