The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps. This specific page is the requests page for the Map workshop. Anyone can make a request for a map to be created or improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed. Many maps on the web are in the public domain. See c:Template:PD-map; no need to create another free map here if it already exists on the web. See this Casebook to see what maps qualify as public domain.
You are encouraged to share information and request advice from others. Also see possible conventions toolbox, map tutorials and topographic map tutorials.
Advice to requesters
What do we do?
Location maps
Area maps (animals, languages, empires, etc.)
Historical and conflict related maps
Battle maps
Technical maps (archaeology, city closeups, etc.)
Sourced requests: If possible, please try to provide a reliable source to create a map. This includes a map already on Wikipedia with a reliable source or an external link.
Please check: Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
Direct collaboration: Some mapmakers are especially interested by one topic area. If you notice a mapmaker fitting your needs, consider asking on their personal talk page to request maps.
{{Reqmap}}: To request a map, you can also tag the talk page of the article in need of a map with or {{Reqmapin|Australia}} (articles then appear in Category:Wikipedia requested maps)
If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.
Advice to Graphists
If you have completed work and not received a reply you may use the {{GL Map reply}} template to inform the requester.

Precolonial Zimbabwe trade routes
Could someone please do a more professional/less bastardised version of this map? It's for various articles such as Great Zimbabwe, History of Africa (7 in total). The source is Butua and the End of an Era (Van Waarden, 2012) page 50, I can email a screenshot of the page. Van Waarden's map has several other details, but it's just the ones included on this image that are necessary. Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 14:06, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
This could be a maplink (such as this one at Poecilia vandepolli) or a simple map. Please let me know if you need anything else! Surtsicna (talk) 19:39, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
Alternative map
Alternatively, a map showing only the occurences of P. velifera on the Yucatan Peninsula along with an insert showing the places around the world where it has been introduced: Thailand (Chao Phraya River and in the Songkhla Lake basin), Peru (Department of Lima), Israel, Taiwan, Libya (Ain Zayanah lagoon), Singapore, Colombia, Brazil (Paraíba do Sul basin).
Whichever you find easier or more fun to make! Surtsicna (talk) 19:35, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Correction request for map of Tennessee State Route 155
This article is currently a good article nominee that is close to promotion. The map incorrectly shows a roadway called Woodmont Boulevard (located between US 70S and US 31) as part of SR 155, which it is sometimes mistaken as part of. I need this corrected. I would also like the map to be color coded to show the parts of SR 155 that are designated as Briley Parkway, Thompson Lane, and White Bridge Road. -- Bneu2013 (talk) 23:42, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
With how notable this topic is, mapping the attacks conducted by Iran against vessels in the Strait of Hormuz would be quite valuable, akin to the Red Sea crisis map. I would try to do it myself but an svg of the strait is way too slow for Inkscape on my pc. As for sources, The Washington Institute has an map which is regularly updated, though I'm sure you can find similar maps from other reliable sources. -- Hsnkn (talk) 15:46, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
Please crop the right hand side at a longitude around Odesa to remove Russian controlled areas such Crimea as they are distracting. The top could be cropped to just below the top of Romania and the left to just east of the westernmost part of Serbia. Don't think we need to name Greece so the scale could go there if you think looks good. Please name Black Sea.
Also it would be great if you could label Turkstream, Trans-Balkan pipeline and Balkan Stream next to the lines rather than as a legend.Chidgk1 (talk) 10:01, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
I think gas is likely to remain geopolitically important for some time but the article is still relying on my slapdash attempt from over a year ago. To make this map easier for readers to follow and for me to translate it would be great if you could
Please convert this PNG map into a high-quality SVG format. The current version is pixelated when zoomed in and difficult to translate.
* Please use a standard SVG base map for geographical accuracy.
* Ensure that all text labels are converted to editable text objects rather than paths.
* Please try to maintain the existing color coding for the various regions/civilizations.
Thanks! -- Dixy52 (talk) 21:58, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

It looks like a Robinson projection of the world with the eastern part cropped off – note how slanted Alaska looks. As such, it's likely not the best projection to show the Americas compared to one properly centered near Mexico. My 2p, cmɢʟeeτaʟκ(please add {{ping|cmglee}} to your reply) 08:24, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
I didn't find any better maps on commons. Apparently, there aren't many svg maps of the americas directly centered on Mexico. I'll let you know if I find one! Dixy52 (talk) 09:47, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
Coming here to forward a request by @Inter-rede that I'm not well-versed enough to understand myself. The request is to upload the map from Template:2026 Iran war map to Commons in a manner along the lines of Data:Japan.map. (Clarifying questions should be addressed to them!) Placeholderer (talk) 14:26, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
I managed to upload it here and ask someone to review it.
I added a move request for the SVG in question to something like "2021 electoral districts of Iraq.svg", would that be ok?
Also, you didn't exactly answer on whether you wanted to do the request or not. Could you say it explicitly if you can? GuesanLoyalist (talk) 05:32, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
@GuesanLoyalist: I'll pass on this job. Good luck! cmɢʟeeτaʟκ(please add {{ping|cmglee}} to your reply) 09:59, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
I do apologise for not saying this earlier, but I do have some other sources as well. Apologising as they might be brand new and make you restart your progress all over again.
Search up "districts of iraq" for more information on google to have a look at various maps
Countries and places listed in the article that the map DOES contain: Samoa, Niue, Wallis and Futuna.
Countries and places listed in the article that the map DOES NOT contain: Tuvalu, Rotuma (part of Fiji), Nauru, Tokelau, parts of Kiribati.
I do not know how to make wikipedia maps. If there is any user here, of if the user who made the current map can update and add these territories, it would match the information on the history page and be historically accurate. -- ~2026-25870-40 (talk) 23:23, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Map of the Province of Canada - 1841 to 1867
Hi,
Is there any way to get a simplified map of the old Province of Canada, which existed from 1841 to 1867? There are old original maps from the Victorian period, but they are not that easy to read, given their age and sepia colours (see the ones included in the Province of Canada article).
I'm thinking of something like this image, which is of Canada at Confederation: File:Canada 1867.svg
The pink and the blue portions together made up the Province of Canada immediately before Confederation. Could a map be made that just focuses on those two areas?
Also, would it be possible to put the cities of Quebec, Montreal, Kingston, Ottawa and Toronto on the proposed map? The reason is that I've recently completed an article on the political dispute over which of those cities should be seat of government for the Province of Canada. It would be very helpful to have a simplified, easy to follow map with those cities on it, for someone who is not familiar with Canadian geography:
Hello! Please update thus map of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Elblag:
Create a new Tolkimcko Deanery by splitting the northern part of the Elblag Północ Deanery. The new Tolkimcko Deanery sholuld include these 6 parishes: Tolkimcko, Cieplice, Pogrodzie, Łęcze, Kadyny and Holy Family (Święta Rodzina) in Elbląg
Rename Nadmorski Deanery to Krynica Morska Deanery
The current map is a JPG file. If possible please update it or convert it to SVG with the new changes
Please, leave a notification on my Polish talk page when the map is ready: -- KamilosR (talk) 08:39, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
