please check your warning again, and the links I provided in the warning. if you have any further questions, please ask below.
How do I cite sources?
please check out Reliable sources and Referencing for beginners. especially the former. I know it's not a short read, but reliable sources form the building block of everything you write in wikipedia articles.
Can you make me an article for X?
I don't make articles, sorry! however you can! just check out the guidelines at Your first article, and also go over through the Notability and Reliable sources guidelines (both are essential!) and the Simplified Manual of Style. if you want, I can help with your draft through copyreading and making it comply with these policies, however you'll still have to add sources and stuff. also note that making an article is very hard (but not impossible) for newcomers given the difficulty in determining which sources you can use as well as the truckload of reading material, so you might want to start with easier tasks first.
So if not make a new article, what easy stuff can I do as a beginner?
great question! I'd suggest checking out the Task center and your Homepage tab for this. in particular, copyediting is easy as long as you've got a good grasp of English grammar (and know the difference between British and American English and know not to change them when not necessary).
You haven't responded in a while. Where may I get an answer?
if I've been inactive in a while, please check out the Teahouse. it's a great place to ask questions, and once in a while I may pop in as well to help there. or...
The Teahouse is locked for me! How do I get help now?
there's also the Help desk, but assuming that's also locked (due to persistent vandal attacks), you may still always use the template {{Help me}} in your own talk page to get help.
...can you just keep my stuff unreverted? I just wanna have some fun.
sorry, I can't! millions of people use Wikipedia as a serious research tool so we have to keep our stuff clean and avoid misleading our audience. however instead of saving your changes, you could make a mock edit by placing your changes, but pressing Show preview instead of Publish changes and then taking a snip of the preview to show to your friends!
But [x] is the greatest/the worst!
great/bad for them! unfortunately, Wikipedia has to remain neutral at all times, which includes not saying that something is the best/the worst/other opinions unless said opinions are made by lots of sources and outlets, and even then it would be X is regarded by many as great/bad/etc and not X is great/bad/etc.
I am/know the person the article is about. Why are my stuff removed?
you may have a conflict of interest with the article, which could make it difficult for you to edit neutrally. you can still edit, however unless it's for minor stuff like typo fixes, it's better for you to discuss stuff at the relevant article's talk page first.
Why are you reverting the truth/reinstating false information?
Verifiability, not truth. truth itself is messy and relative, so what is true to one may not be true to another, so defining a singular truth to add is impossible. additionally, having sources allows anyone to see for themselves whether what we claim in an article is true or not. that goes the same way for false information: unless sources say that the claim/s made are false, it would be disruptive to remove them without getting consensus from the talk page first.
I use any! I don't mind you using he, she, or they. thanks for asking!
How'd you make your fancy signature?
a bit of CSS trickery! you can use Treat the above as wikimarkup and some <span> to apply CSS to your sig, which allows you to do stuff like signatures with backgrounds (color), round signatures (border-radius), and whatever'll fit in the 255-char limit.
help in answering my questions will always be welcome! feel free to respond to questions here if you feel like you're experienced enough.
(insert expletive here) you!
please do not. <3
Please help re-size a userbox
I have just made a new userbox. There wasn't an existing one in a gallery. I need the userbox to be re-sized. I think the image I used from Commons is making it too big, but I can't change the size. Your name was on the list of editors who can make userboxes. Would you be able to look at the last userbox here about Know My Name and tell me how I can make the image smaller and the whole userbox smaller and rectangular like the others? User:LPascalLPascal (talk) 10:45, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
@LPascal:Done I replaced the thumb argument in the image with x42px, basically forcing the image to have a height of 42 pixels (the prefix x marks this as height, as opposed to not having it such as 42px which sets it to a width of 42px instead). thus the image code becomes [[File:Bess Norriss Tait.jpg|x42px]]. happy editing! 💜melecietalk - 14:00, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you so much. The WP page on userboxes does not give detail on how to create userboxes. It would be better if there were templates or wizards that gave me options in visual code. Thank you also for explaining the commands to use in source code so I can do it for myself next time I create a userbox.LPascal (talk) 23:07, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Proposal for Correction: Silent Disco Origins
Many current articles—including Wikipedia—repeat multiple historical inaccuracies about the origins of the Silent Disco. Common errors include: Crediting 1960s science fiction (e.g., Astro Boy, obscure Finnish films) as inspiration. Claiming eco-activism, wildlife protection, or FM broadcasts (e.g., Glastonbury 1994) as the origin of Silent Discos is misleading. A related misconception is Wikipedia’s claim that Silent Discos originated with eco-activists. In reality, the Pippi Autoloze Zondag(Cisco Sa) (Car-Free Sunday) events in the Netherlands—an eco-activist initiative—used pirate radios to broadcast music to participants. This setting became a technical testing ground where the foundational technology for the Silent Disco concept was first developed. Attributing the term “Silent Disco” to U.S. festivals, such as Bonnaroo 2005. while the tearn silent disco already existed in the Netherelands silentdisco.com domain was bought by the dutch in 2002, how can it be an american thing, when it already was labeled by teh dutch first? - see archive.org 2002 - 2003 - (https://web.archive.org/web/20031209083525/http://www.433fm.com/indexeng.html) These sources conflate passive listening with the participatory dance experience that defines a true Silent Disco. The concept was actually conceived by Cisco Sa in Portugal in the early 1980s and later developed in eco activist ection Pippi Autoloze Zondag and then commercialized by Dutch Nico Okkerse and Michael Minten in 2002. - see pippi autoloze zondag (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car-free_days) Many sources repeat the same incorrect claims from wikipedia about the origins of the Silent Disco, creating a feedback loop: Wikipedia scans the web, sees these repetitions, and cites them as verification, which then causes more websites to echo the same story. This cycle gives the appearance of consensus, even though the original claims are inaccurate. The topic deserves serious inspection and correction; primary-source evidence is available here (https://silentdisco.de/silent-disco-origins-and-history) ~2026-46793-2 (talk) 15:47, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
