Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thanks for your edits. I think it is better to redirect this to the main article for search purposes so I've made that change, but I also added the R from non-neutral name template since "Barry Obama" is usually an attempt to provoke controversy and non-NPOV. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 06:15, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Makes sense. Should it redirect to the section "Racism towards Obama"? GeekInParadise (talk) 06:19, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
I don't think any more edits are needed at this point. My reasoning for directing "Barry Obama" straight to Barack Obama is that someone who misremembers his name may search using that name instead. I also considered using the "incorrect name" template instead of the non-neutral name template, but I think the non-neutral one fits better based on the descriptions of the templates. A tag has been placed on Daddy Elon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ryland Adams until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.
Greetings, GeekInParadise. The recent decision in the AfD for the article on "Ryland Adams" was to Delete the article and not to create a Redirect to "Shane Dawson" as you did. Please correct this mistake by taking the Redirect page down. If you want to create such a page, you should initiate such a proposal as appropriate. Take care. -The Gnome (talk) 13:31, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Regarding your recent close at Articles for deletion
Whoops perhaps I cited it wrong. Your post made it sound as though it was WP:TOOSOON for that page to be made, but as time passed others indicated that it was no longer the case and as of significance. Thanks for letting me know about the nacd template. This was the first closure I've made. Let me know if you think I should adjust the closure comment, cause I don't wanna misrepresent what you are saying. Take care. GeekInParadise (talk) 02:25, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
To try that again, the opener explained why they had put the article up for deletion ("No significance"; "the impacts will be minimal"), while your close seems to give a different reason why they did so ("perhaps the requester believed it was WP:TOOSOON"). (EM) The other point I was trying to say is that WP:TOOSOON would be something to cite for deleting the article ("Sometimes it's simply just too soon for a topic to have an article") and was the only policy listed in the closing, despite the closing being to keep the article.
Those were my concerns when I saw the close. I think that as long as no one else has an issue with it, you don't need to adjust it. But it is something to look out for in the future to help avoid Wikipedia:Deletion review. (In this case, I don't think this will go review since there is no point to reopening when the proposer never received a vote in support of deleting the article compared to over a dozen that said to keep the article. It would have been a snow close situation had a few of us not said to wait or revisit it later.)
In any case, thank you for closing this. --Super Goku V (talk) 20:10, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
