Sejarah ekonomi adalah ilmu yang mempelajari tentang cara fenomena ekonomi berubah dilihat dari sudut pandang historisnya. Analisis dalam sejarah ekonomi dilakukan menggunakan gabungan metode sejarah, metode statistik dan teori ekonomi terapan sampai peristiwa bersejarah. Topik ini meliputi sejarah bisnis, sejarah keuangan dan mencakup bidang sejarah sosial seperti sejarah kependudukan dan sejarah buruh. Sejarah ekonomi kuantitatif (ekonometrik) juga disebut sebagai kliometrik.^[1]
