Politik pengakuan genosida adalah upaya untuk menafsirkan ulang suatu peristiwa sebagai "genosida" atau menetapkannya secara resmi sebagai genosida.[1] Upaya tersebut dapat dilakukan tanpa memperhatikan apakah peristiwa tersebut memenuhi definisi genosida yang ditetapkan dalam Konvensi Genosida 1948.[2]
Di negara-negara yang memiliki sejarah kolonialisme, pengakuan terhadap genosida kolonial sulit dilakukan karena sejarah bangsa tersebut bisa dipertanyakan.[3] Sebagian besar genosida dilakukan oleh negara.[4][5]
