I am delighted to write this letter on behalf of Kartika Sari Henry, to outline her significant contribution as a winner in "Bebaskan Pengetahuan 2010" (Free Your Knowledge 2010), a writing competition in Indonesian language Wikipedia with Wikimedia Indonesian from April 1 to June 16, 2010.
The "Bebaskan Pengetahuan 2010" (BP2010) is a three month program developed by Wikimedia Indonesia to leverage public participation to improve Indonesian language Wikipedia articles. It is a pilot project to introduce the Wikimedia mission "Free Knowledge" worldwide. The ultimate goal is to provide an open source of information for everyone. The competition targets talented young writers from Universities and partners with mainstream media. By providing information and inspiring discourse, Wikimedia is hoping to promote a stronger demand for improved information and increased community participation from the local to national level.
Kartika was interested to join the program when she sees the poster advertisement and later on her participation was confirmed by her lecturer, Erwin Sentausa. Each University is permitted to submit no more than nine of their best students as participants to compete on behalf of the University. As one of the chosen nine, Kartika competed on behalf of the Faculty of Biotechnology at Atma Jaya Chatolic University, Jakarta. According to the Project Director supervisor Siska Doviana, during her three months competition, Kartika has been one of the exceptional participants, she has been very productive, a fast learner, and comprehensive in her writing. The Jury awarded her the highest cumulative score for her first articles: "Bioluminesens", her other article "Tanaman transgenik" (Genetically modified plant) also receives many positive feedback such as: "in depth", "comprehensive", and "very good".
Kartika successfully wrote 189 (one hundred and eighty-nine) high quality articles within 72 days of competition. Kartika's long and short articles covers a diverse range of topics including biology such as bacteria, genetic modification, diseases, and dog breed; She also wrote about biography of inspiring people and high profile designers. The highlight of Kartika participation would be her achievement in winning the competition and receive travel scholarship to attend Wikimania 2010, in Gdansk, Poland. Kartika also received a laptop as an acknowledgment for her contribution, handed over by Indonesia's Directorate General of Telematics Application from the Ministry of Informatics and Technology: Ashwin Sasongko.
