Kepausan Bizantin adalah sebuah periode dominasi (Romawi) Bizantium dari kepausan Roma dari 537 sampai 752, saat para Paus mewajibkan kesepakatan dari Kaisar (Romawi) Bizantium untuk penahbisan rasuli, dan beberapa Paus dipilih dari apocrisiarii (perantara Paus dengan Kaisar) atau para penduduk Yunani Bizantium, Siria Bizantium atau Sisilia Bizantium. Yustinianus I merebut semenanjung Italia dalam Perang Gothik (535–554) dan mengangkat tiga Paus berikutnya, sebuah praktik yang diteruskan oleh para penerusnya dan kemudian didelegasikan kepada Eksarkhat Ravenna.
