According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Bulnes spans an area of 425.4km2 (164sqmi) and has 20,595 inhabitants (10,275 men and 10,320 women). Of these, 12,514 (60.8%) lived in urban areas and 8,081 (39.2%) in rural areas. Between the 1992 and 2002 censuses, the population grew by 4.5% (882 persons).[3]
Administration
As a commune, Bulnes is a third-level administrative division of Chile administered by a municipal council, headed by an alcalde who is directly elected every four years. The 2008-2012 alcalde is Rodrigo De La Puente Acuña (ILE). The municipal council has the following members:[1][2]
