Bersama dengan dialek Arkadiasiprus yang membentuk kelompok Yunani Tengah, kedua dialek tersebut menunjukkan banyak arkaisme dibandingkan dengan beberapa dialek Yunani Kuno lainnya.

Demikian pula *gʷ PIE dan PH selalu menjadi b Aiolia dan *gʷʰ PIE > *kʰʷ PH selalu menjadi ph Aiolia (pada dialek lain menjadi b/d dan ph/th sebelum vokal depan dan/atau belakang).
Labiovelar diperlakukan dengan cara yang sama dalam bahasa-bahasa P-Kelt dan Sabellik.
Gugus sonoran
Gugus konsonan Proto-Helenik (PH) dengan h (diwariskan dari *s Proto-Indo-Eropa (PIE)) dan sebuah sonoran (baik r, l, n, m, w, y) berubah menjadi sonoran ganda (rr, ll, nn, mm, ww, yy) dalam sub-dialek Thessalia dan Lesbia melalui asimilasi. Dalam bahasa Yunani Attika-Ionia, Doria, dan Aiolia di Boiotia, h terasimilasi dengan vokal sebelum gugus konsonan, menyebabkan vokal memanjang dengan pemanjangan kompensatori.
VsR atau VRsPIE → VVR Attika-Ionia, Doria, dan Aiolia Boiotia.
*h₁ésmiPIE → *ehmiPH → emmi Lesbia-Thessalia ~ ēmi Attika-Ionia (= εἰμίcode: grc is deprecated ) berarti "aku adalah"
